74 Matt Friend

The Invicta Dynamos are happy to welcome 24-year-old Netminder Matt Friend to the 23/24 roster.

A junior of the Solent system, Matt has split much of his junior career to date between there and Basingstoke, featuring at various levels for both clubs. He also spent two seasons in Canada representing both Oshawa Riverkings of the GMHL and the Meadow Lake Mustangs in the WSHL before returning to Basingstoke Buffalo for the 19/20 season.

His most recent stint in NIHL 1 was with the Milton Keynes Thunder in the 21/22 season. He featured in 14 games for the team in a difficult season that saw them finish bottom place in the league.

Looking to advance his career Friend joined the NIHL 2 side Streatham Blackhawks where he played 24 games last season. During those matches he posted a 89.9 save percentage.

The netminder, now stepping back up to NIHL1 with the Dynamos said “I am really looking forward to joining the Dynamos for the upcoming season, Karl has gathered a great group of lads within a great organisation. I’m very excited to play in front of the great crowds that Invicta draws, and I can’t wait to get started”!

Speaking about the signing of Friend, Head Coach Karl Lennon said “Matt and I spoke during the close season as I searched for a replacement for Harvey. He came upon recommendation to us and would add some depth to our netminding capabilities. After some time with MK at our level, he featured regularly for Streatham 2 last year and felt it was the right time to step up a level and push for game time in our league. From speaking with him a few times you can tell immediately that he’s a good guy and we’ve been lucky to have him skate with us in the off season too. Welcome to the Mos Matt”. 💪
