RIDER IS WELCOMED BACK FOR THE 2023/24 SEASON

Our first signing of the season is an important one! Our homegrown netminder, Owen Rider, will return to his post between the pipes in September following discussions with Karl Lennon shortly after the final game in April.
This past season was a pivotal one for Rider. Having stepped up to fill the top goalie spot in September he has matured and grown as a player significantly ever since. His confidence increased as each game passed and he most certainly played a huge role in a number of key results across the season.
As we all know, Rider is a product of the Invicta junior setup and progressed through the youth ranks swiftly, often playing up a level beyond his years. His first taste of NIHL1 hockey came in 2019 and he resumed his place in the team in 2021, following a covid hit previous season. During 2021/22 he appeared in 18 games, playing 795 minutes, facing 566 shots, conceding 67 and achieving a very respectable 88.16 save percentage.
Fast forward to September 2022, his role within the team transformed to that of our number one goalie and Rider was keen to prove he was up to the challenge. He had a somewhat sizeable burden of responsibility on his shoulders, but it was the season that saw him come of age. During the last campaign he played 35 games, faced 1452 shots, conceded 162 and ended the season with an 88.8 save percentage. Very commendable stats considering the reset within the club and the change in strategy that saw our younger players given more ice time. The early part of the season was very much about development and support.
Rider is extremely happy to be back with the Mos, speaking on his return he said “Last year was great, this group of boys Karl has put together is the best team I’ve ever been a part of and I can’t wait for more seasons to come. I’m looking forward to next season and excited to see what we can achieve now”!
Karl Lennon is delighted to see Rider commit to the forthcoming season and said the following “Owen took great strides last season in his development. A lot of people questioned one so young taking the added responsibility to be our No. 1, but he got better week on week and at the business end of the season he really came into his own. He has a great attitude on and off the ice and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. In particular, his performances in the Cup Final really showed just how valuable he is to this team and massively helped us to get our hands on that trophy. I will be expecting more of the same from him, great to have you back Owen”. 💪
Own Rider will continue to wear the number 30 jersey for the Dynamos in 2022/23. Welcome back Owen!
