Our 2023/24 Defenceman of the Year Regan O’Neil returns for second season to patrol the blue line again.
The 23-year-old d-man is another product of the Invicta junior system playing at U16 and U18 before transitioning to the Mustangs in 2017/18, remaining with them for 7 seasons. O’Neil made the step up to the Mos on a permanent basis last season, having spent one season on a 2-way, and the solid and dependable player slotted in well, has developed his game and has not looked back.
O’Neil was a strong presence throughout last season. The stay-at-home d-man was always prepared to put his body on the line for his teammates and grew into his role as time progressed, a mid-season hip injury was testament to his commitment to the cause. In the 36 games he featured in he scored 1 goal, assisted in another 11 more and accumulated 39 penalty minutes in the process. We can’t wait to welcome him back on to the ice come September and watch on as he continues to grow and develop his game as a high impact and powerful hockey player.
Delighted to have re-signed, O’Neil had this to say “I really enjoyed my first full season with the Mo’s. I am very excited by the roster we are putting together and cannot wait to get going. See you in September”!
“Reg was a rock for us at the back last season. As it passed, I leant on him more and more due to his all round game and his dependable nature. He showed up to compete every night and was a worthy winner of our Defenceman of the Season. In just our first full year of working together we saw huge improvements in his all-round game and I expect him to keep on that trajectory. Welcome back Regan”.
