Defenceman Joe Stephenson will return to the blue line in September for another season as a Mo. Stephenson returned to the club in 2022 and has been an integral part of our D ever since. His development and improved confidence across the past 2 seasons have been enjoyable to watch and we look forward to seeing that continue when the new campaign begins.
The 26-year-old spent some of his earlier years icing for the Invicta Juniors U16s in 2011/12 and 2012/13 before switching to the Guildford youth setup. He remained in Surrey for several seasons working his way through the under 16s, under 18s and under 20s, before making his senior debut in the NIHL South Division 2 in 2017/18.
In 2019/20 he returned to the Invicta setup and his first as a senior Mo and demonstrated a reliable and mature presence on the blue line. He subsequently went on to sign for the Phoenix in 2021 in a campaign that saw them reign supreme in all competitions, winning the league, the cup and the playoffs in fantastic style. With a desire to play at a higher level once again he resigned with us in 2022 and has made the Mos his home ever since. His calm head and consistency are invaluable assets, as is his commitment. In the 38 games he iced in last season, he assisted in 3 goals and was a reliable and constant presence.
Speaking on his return, Joe Stephenson said, “I’m excited to be back, Karl has already made some great signings and it was an obvious decision for me to stay. I have a good feeling about this season and can’t wait to get going. See you all in September.”
