The Invicta Dynamos and principle sponsors OSP Group Ltd came together to support the club’s 2019/20 charity partner on Sunday with the club collecting for the foodbank and OSP Group Ltd handing over a cheque for £1,000.
The Dynamos partnered up with Medway Foodbank before the start of the 2019/20 campaign and collect food donations at every home game which are then passed onto the charity to help people in crisis across the Medway Towns. Over the weekend another 365 items were donated by supporters, players and staff taking the total number of donations handed to the foodbank since the beginning of the partnership to a phenomenal 1,992.
On Sunday the club’s principal Sponsors – Gillingham based specialist recruitment company OSP Group Ltd – joined the cause by making a very generous donation of £1,000 to the charity. Penelope Williams, Senior Business Development Manager of OSP Group Ltd, said, “OSP Group is very pleased to be able to support both the Dynamos and Medway Foodbank in 2019/20. Medway Foodbank does so much for those in need including transporting around two tonnes of food a week around Medway, collecting foobank donations and delivering food to eight foodbank centres in the area.”
Medway Foodbank Project Manager Lorraine Schulze has been delighted by the response from the club and the unexpected boost of a formidable donation from sponsors OSP Group Ltd as the charity heads into a busy festive season. Schulze said, “It has been a privilege to work with the Invicta Dynamos as their charity of the year. We have been overwhelmed by the continual donations of food at their matches which has helped enormously particularly at times in the year when we have been low on stock. They have also been excellent at spreading the word on social media. We were delighted to join them at a game Sunday and cheer them on!”
Speaking on the £1,000 donation Schulze added, “We are so grateful for the monetary donation from OSP Group Ltd. Whilst we obviously collect food, like any charity we also need funds to help keep the while operation running across Medway. Funds are always needed to pay for storage use and transport. We lease warehouse space on Medway City Estate and hire a van once a week to transport food to our eight foodbank centres. OSP Group’s donation will definitely help us handle these costs and continue to support the people of Medway.”
Lastly Lorraine Schulze detailed the ongoing work of Medway Foodbank saying, “At this time of year we see many kind and generous donations of food from both harvest and Christmas. We rely on the influx of food at this time to help us through the remainder of the year. We have been involved in supermarket collections, harvest assemblies at schools and are looking forward to Christmas fundraising events such as carol singing. During October we worked with some other local groups to run a Brunch Club for needy families when they are unable to access free school meals and we will be doing this again over the Christmas period. We are currently looking at a significant increase in the use of foodbanks in Medway so all donations are gratefully received”.
