The Invicta Dynamos are delighted that young d-man Matty Bell will ice for the club again this season on a more permanent basis that will see him play for the Mos in the first instance but also continuing to play for the Mustangs when the schedule allows.
Bell is a homegrown talent here at Invicta having represented multiple age groups within the junior system that ultimately saw him fulfil his first full time season in senior hockey last year. During that campaign he iced as a priority for the Mustangs, joining us when games in NIHL1 & 2 did not conflict, thus maximizing his exposure to different levels of hockey. This season sees a switch up with that arrangement as Bell has decided he’s ready for the step up and embraces the challenge to develop his game with open arms.
Bell rose through the ranks at Invicta, making his first appearance for the Mustangs in 2021 in a season that saw him split his time between them and the U18s. Bell was captain of the Colts team that year and played a vital role in them clinching the South2 League Title, scoring an incredible 21 goals and assisting in another 29 in just 13 games. These strong performances ensured Bell had the confidence to sign with the Mustangs last season, whilst also appearing for the Mos when able to. A successful campaign with the Mustangs saw him play a crucial role in their South 2 Playoff victory and scoop the award for Supporters’ Player of the Year. He also did not look out of depth when icing in the NIHL1 for the Mos, appearing in 21 games, showing great maturity and skill. He will now join the roster as a fully fledged Mo and we look forward to witnessing his continuing development.
Matty Bell had this to say about stepping up: “I’m really excited to continue my time with the Dynamos this season. I enjoyed my development last year and want to progress and gain more experience!”
Delighted Bell is joining the club on a more permanent basis, Dynamos Head Coach Karl Lennon said: “We saw great development in Matty’s game last season and I thought he coped perfectly well at our level of hockey. Besides that of course he also had a fantastic season with the Mustangs. So the natural progression for his development was to continue to split his time between both teams but with a priority to our schedule. He’s a real talent that is calm and confident on the puck, making good decisions on what play to make from the back. In addition to that he’s a good lad that brings a good energy to the dressing room during trainings and games. Looking forward to seeing his continued development this season with increased exposure.”
Invicta Mustangs Head Coach Ali Roger also adds: “Matty had a fantastic year for us and I was happy to see him voted Fans Player of the Season. He benefited from the experience he gained in both teams last season and this one will be no different. We’ll be happy to have him with us as and when we can. Great to see another Invicta Junior progressing through the ranks”.
Bell will continue to wear the number 46 jersey this season.
