BRÖNNIMANN’S BACK!

Jun 4, 2024 | All News, Player News

Following his return to hockey last season, we are pleased to say that Oli Brönnimann enjoyed it so much he’s decided he’s not done yet and will be back for more this September.  The forward previously enjoyed a long and successful career as an esteemed player in top tier hockey, the opportunity to return to where it all started was a special moment for him last year, and he’s not going anywhere, anytime soon.

Hailing from Margate and originally an Invicta/Medway junior, Brönnimann represented the club at U12 and U14 level. When he turned 14, he left for the Guildford junior system. Following 2 seasons with the Firestar’s and Phoenix he moved across to Switzerland to play both Elite Jr B and then A, alongside some time on loan in Swiss Div 1 for EHC Saas-Grund. His development was cemented by the Guildford Flames who duly brought him back to the UK for the 05/06 season. A season that would also see him represent GB at the World Junior Championships U20 D2/A where he picked up a Gold Medal.

He spent 4 seasons with the Flames, icing 222 times – scoring 93 goals and 96 assists totalling 189 points. During his time with them he was twice part of their EPIHL Championship Titles in 05/06 and 07/08.  He then made the move to the Basingstoke Bison, staying for 3 seasons and amassing 73, goals and 52 assists in his time there.  The final spell of that part of his career saw him ice in both Bracknell and back in Guildford, before he hung his skates up for over 8 years to focus on his family and professional life.

Those skates were dusted off last summer as he took to the ice for the Dynamos, back in the Invicta fold once again, and fulfilling a long-held dream to ice for the club where it all started for him over 20 years prior!  A period of adjustment and settling in saw him find his stride in the latter part of the season and we are excited to see where this one will take him as his confidence and skill take hold.

Happy to be back for another campaign Oli had this to say “After a long layoff from the game, it was always going to be a difficult start for me, but I felt that Karl and the club gave me the necessary support to improve through the season. After speaking with Karl, I feel I can hit the ground running this year, and with very good additions to the roster I am sure I will have a bigger impact in the new season. Looking forward to seeing you all in September”. #91

Delighted to secure the services of Brönnimann once again, Head Coach Karl Lennon adds “After a few years away from the sport we knew that it would take some time for Oli to find his true self back on the ice. But as the season closed, I felt we really started to see that come through. I know myself, having had a long spell out of the game, just how difficult it is to recapture what you once were. He has huge quality on the puck, and he really contributed well offensively as we concluded. Aside from that of course he was great to have in the locker room, a real character that fitted in immediately. I expect him to build on last year with us come September.  Very happy to have you back Oli”.👌

Oliver Brönnimann will wear the number 91 for the 24/25 season.

Welcome back Oli, great to have you on board!
