The Dynamos are delighted to announce that Michael Stokes, the local and loyal D-Man who has been a part of the Invicta set up his entire hockey career, has confirmed his desire to remain a Mo for the upcoming season.

Stokes has iced in Gillingham since his very first season as an U16 in 2002/03 and has enjoyed a long and settled position on the blue line in his hometown rink that spans 20 years. Following a number of seasons that saw him play for both the U16s and the Invicta Mustangs, playing first in the U19s and then U18s leagues at the time, it was the 2008/09 season that saw his career with the Mustangs step up and he didn’t look back. Icing almost consistently for them across the next 15 years, bar 2 seasons where he did not play, Stokes was an ever present player serving as both Captain and Alternate Captain along the way.
An injury sustained last summer meant his return to the Mustangs was disturbed and following some reflection he decided the time was right to step up to the Mos, joining us in November last year. After a short period of acclimatisation to NIHL1 hockey Stokes soon found his feet and his confidence and certainly did not look out of place on and off the ice. In the 24 games he iced for the club he assisted in 5 goals and accumulated 24 minutes in penalty points.
With his newfound confidence and an ambition to continue to improve we can’t wait to see what the 2023/24 season has in store for Stokes in a Mos jersey once more.
On the re-signing of Stokes, Karl Lennon says ‘I was really happy to have Stokesy join us last season. He came in at a time where we were a little depleted and slotted in great. He is a good lad to have in the room and as he got more settled, his confidence improved, and his performances were very strong. He’s got great composure on the puck, never gives up on a battle and has a good eye for a pass too. With some experience at this level now under his belt, I expect him to hit the ground running in September. Great to have him back”. 💪
Stokes is pleased to be back and had this to add “I can’t wait to get going again this season, to continue to improve on what we achieved last year”.
Stokes will continue to wear the No 84 next season. Welcome back Stokesy!
