STEPHENSON SIGNS ON FOR 23/24
We are pleased to announce that solid defenceman Joe Stephenson will return to the blue line in September for another season as a Mo. Joe completed a return to the club last year following a term with the Guildford Phoenix and his services proved vital to us in a season that saw him grow in terms of reliability and confidence and feature in all of our 41 games played.
Stephenson spent some of his earlier years icing for the Invicta Juniors U16s in 2011/12 and 2012/13 before switching to the Guildford youth setup. He remained in Surrey for several seasons working his way through the under 16s, under 18s and under 20s, before making his senior debut in the NIHL South Division 2 in 2017/18.
In 2019/20 he returned to the Invicta setup and his first as a senior Mo and demonstrated a reliable and mature presence on the blue line. He subsequently went on to sign for the Phoenix in 2021 in a campaign that saw them reign supreme in all competitions, winning the league, the cup and the playoffs in fantastic style. With a desire to play at a higher level once again he resigned with us last season and in the 41 games played he scored 1 goal and 15 assists. His calm head, consistency and commitment proved invaluable assets.
Speaking on his re-sign, Joe Stephenson said, “I am excited to be returning to the Dynamos. I can see the direction that the Club is heading with Karl. He has a clear vision for the team, and I am confident that he will lead us to more success. Karl put a good group together and after a good year I had no doubt I would be returning this season.”
Lennon is delighted to have the D-Man back on the roster and had this to say “Joe was a steadying presence for me throughout last season. His performances were extremely consistent allowing me to trust him across all lines at various points to strengthen us where needed. I really think he showed us all just exactly what he is capable of, he is defensively sound allowing us to build plays from the back. The consummate professional and a good character to have in the dressing room. I can’t wait to see his continued evolution in the coming season”.
Joe Stephenson will continue to wear the number 40 jersey for the Dynamos when the new season begins in September. Welcome back Joe!
