After stepping up to the Invicta Dynamos in 2022 and with a promising first season under his belt, 21-year-old D Man Billy Woods has confirmed his desire to once again ice for the Mos this season.
Woods is a former Invicta Junior, joining the set up in 2017. In the subsequent 3 seasons he iced for both the U18s Broncos and Colts, showing great promise, before getting the call to step up to NIHL1 and a spot with the Mos. Woods showed much improvement as the season progressed and he certainly grasped the opportunity with both hands. A local lad who quickly became a fan favourite, narrowly missing out on receiving the Supporter’s Player of the Year Award at the End of Season Presentation Night. He iced for the club in 32 games last season, scoring 1 goal and assisting in a further 7 giving him a points total of 8 and accumulating just 6 penalty minutes in that time.
Woods is another key part of the plans Lennon has to develop these young and talented players and nurture and support their game to ensure they become the experienced players of the future of our club. The young D Man has already made great strides and shows a keen willingness to learn from those around him and we are sure, under Lennon and with the other experienced players alongside him, he will come on leaps and bounds again this year.
We are certain that Woods has a long and successful Invicta Dynamos career ahead of him and we look forward to seeing him back on the ice come September, when the season resumes, to watch on closely as he further hones his game.
On signing for the Mos, Woods is very keen to get the season underway, he said “I am excited and eager to get going come September for what will be my second season with the mos. After playing last year and experiencing league hockey for the 1st time it was a challenging season for me. But playing with experienced and high-level players only helped improve my game as the season went on. I heard from a lot of people when I first signed that the Mos had the best fans in the league and last season proved that even though the season didn’t play out as we wanted. The fan support was great, having our back, so it was an easy decision for me to stay with the Mos for the season ahead. I am very confident with the team I have around me that we can really challenge in this league and push any team all the way. Roll on September”!
Lennon added “In a tough season Billy was a standout performer for all the right reasons. In his first full season with the Dynamos, he put together some extremely impressive performances. Always willing to listen and learn from the guidance of those around him. I expect him to kick on to the next level this season and really cement his place in our Roster as a main stay for the Dynamos. He is again a great example of our junior system and what we can expect when a young player is given exposure at this level. Welcome back Bill”!
Billy Woods will wear continue to wear the number 49 in 2022/23. Welcome back Woods!
