The Invicta Dynamos are delighted to welcome Slovakian forward Tomaš Banovský to Gillingham with the 27 year old in the UK and ready to make his debut this weekend pending the completion of his registration with the EIHA.
Tomaš Banovský hails from Michalovce in east Slovakia, close to the border with Ukraine, and it is here the forward has spent almost the entirety of his career. The skater rose through the junior ranks at his hometown club HK Michalovce before becoming a regular for the side in Slovakia’s second tier. Only this term did he move on to nearby outfit MHK Humenne before now being tempted to the UK for the remainder of 2019/20.
Between 2007 and 2010 Tomaš Banovský featured for the HK Michalovce’s under 18s where he was prolific, managing a remarkable 174 points in 93 outings – 81 of those goals and 93 assists. From 2010 to 2012 he continued his excellent form having stepped up to the under 20s – playing in 71 fixtures and averaging 1.8 points per game as he found the net 58 times and played a role in 72 more.
With such outstanding form at junior level, it came as no surprise when Banovský made his debut in Slovakia’s second tier in 2010/11 aged just 18. He became a full time member of the senior side in 2012/13 and iced for the outfit until the close of 2018/19. In total he made 336 appearances in his country’s second division, scored 107 goals, created another 117 and so tallied 224 points helping the team to consecutive championships in 2017/18 and 2018/19. He also amassed 258 minutes of penalties.
In 2019/20 the Slovak moved to the nearby town of Humenne where he briefly featured in Slovakia’s third division. Banovský picked up 15 points with 8 goals and 7 assists to his name before completing a switch to the Invicta Dynamos earlier this week.
Speaking on the signing of Tomaš Banovský, Player-Coach Anthony Leone said, “I’m really pleased to welcome Tomas to the UK and to the Dynamos. In searching for another ‘import’ I spent a lot of time doing my homework to make sure we found the right guy and I’m confident Tomaš is that man. He has played at a good level back home in Slovakia so has great experience plus he’ll bring size, speed and a good set of hands to the team. I’m sure the supporters will enjoy watching him play and give him a great welcome to the team”.
Tomaš Banovský will wear the number 92 jersey for the Invicta Dynamos. The Slovakian should ice for the team this weekend on home ice against the Cardiff Fire in Gillingham on Saturday and on the road against Oxford on Sunday should his registration be confirmed with the league’s governing body in time.
