Following the news tonight of our No 61, Arran Strawson’s retirement, here is a statement from the man himself.
“Hockey has been my life for the past 30 years, so it is now time to hang the skates up here in Gillingham. I am ready to give back to my family who have sacrificed everything, allowing me to play the sport I love. As I write this I’m getting emotional as I knew this day would come, but for me hockey is more than just a game, from the early days in Sheffield it taught me a hell of a lot away from the ice from hard work to commitment and dedication, as well as the true friendships I have made along the way.
There are so many people I want to thank especially Kevin and Sarah Parrish for bringing me to Invicta and allowing me to be myself as a player and as a person, thank you. Thanks to all my past and current teammates, past coaches and current coach Karl Lennon for allowing me to complete my 11th season with the Dynamos.
Thank you to Andy and Jackie Mason for allowing KP to bring me here all those years ago and making me feel so welcome. I want to thank the fans for always showing love and support to me and my family on and off the ice it means more than you will ever know. I am so grateful to my mum dad and sisters who gave me with the opportunity to play all over the world chasing my dream for that I thank you.
Most importantly thank you to my family Lizzie, Riley and Loretta for always having my back, win or lose, and always putting a smile on my face. You mean the world to me. Love you
