The Dynamos are excited to announce that Regan O’Neil has opted for a move to NIHL1 hockey and will join the club on a permanent basis for the 2023/24 season. O’Neil has been a standout player in recent times for the Mustangs and was a part of the playoff winning team that clinched a well-deserved victory from the Haringey Huskies in April of this year. Following that success and a desire to progress he feels the time is right to make the move.
The 23-year-old d-man is another product of the Invicta junior system and has played a part in the Mustangs line up for 7 seasons. Last year was his first as the teams Assistant Captain where, in 13 league games, he scored 4 goals and 7 assists totalling 11 points. He further added 6 points in the cup (3G+3A) and an impressive 6 points (4G + 2A) in just 4 playoff games.
Dynamos fans also got to see him in action in 3 games last term (the maximum that could be played for a 23-year-old or over under the NIHL Rules of Competition) where he featured twice against the Chelmsford Chieftains and once against the Streatham Redhawks. In those 3 games he registered 2 goals and 2 assists which included an OT winner in Chelmsford in the league.
Hoping to grab the opportunity by both hands and keen to get going with the team, O’Neil had this to say “Very excited to take the step into playing with the Dynamos next season. I got to take part in a few games last season and really enjoyed the experience. Can’t wait to be competing at this level on a more regular basis. Looking forward to seeing you all in September!”
Clearly happy with the acquisition of O’Neil, Head Coach Karl Lennon said “We got to see last season ,in only 3 games, the impact that Reg can have at our level. He was the scorer of one of my fondest goals last season, the OT winner in Chelmsford. He comes to us like James, on the back of a playoff win with the Mustangs and looking to take the next step in his career. Regan is a talented defender that has an impact at both ends of the ice. He’s a real presence physically which is something I think we needed to add more of to our team and I’m very excited to have him with us this season”.
New signing O’Neil, the no nonsense D-Man, will bolster the team’s blue line and will wear the No 8 jersey. Welcome Regan!
