The former Invicta junior, who has spent his entire playing career in Gillingham, had 6 seasons with the Mustangs and played a pivotal role in the team’s offence in years, regularly at the top end of the scoring charts. His last season there was no different, across 24 league games he scored 18 goals and 19 assists totalling 37 points, adding a further 10 points in 4 games (6 of which were goals) in the playoffs.
Due to his success at NIHL2 and having caught the eye of Head Coach, Karl Lennon, with some impressive performances, coupled with a desire by Laming to take his game to the next level, he decided to take the leap and join us full time last season. He soon slotted in and has not looked back. His energetic and fast paced play endeared him to fans and, it was no surprise, that he walked away with the Supporter’s Player of the Year Award last month! Thoroughly well deserved! In the 36 games he featured he scored 8 goals and assisted in a further 10 more, giving him a points total of 18.
“I was so happy for James to get Supporters Player of the Year. It was great recognition of the intensity he plays with each week, shift by shift, which can’t help but be noticed by everyone. His work rate is infectious, and he was a vital player for me to retain this season. James brings so much to our team both on a regular shift and in our special teams and we can only seem him becoming more and more important to us. Can’t wait to have him back with us come September”.

Speaking on his return, Laming said “I’m really excited to be back for the 24/25 season – I was able to learn a lot last year as I adjusted to this level, and I’m looking forward to building upon that next season. Karl’s putting together a really strong team that I can’t wait to be a part of. I hope everyone has a great summer and I’m looking forward to seeing you all in September”!
