The Invicta Dynamos are delighted to announce the signing of Danish forward Mads Thune. Following lengthy discussions regarding his eligibility we were thrilled to be advised very recently that his ITC has been approved, he is clear to play for us this season and will take to the ice with the team for the preseason weekend on 2nd/3rd Sept.
The 29-year-old was born and raised in Denmark and began his hockey career in his hometown playing for the Herlev U17s. He then played a brief spell in Sweden, icing for the IFK Ore at both U18 and U20 level before returning to Denmark in 2012 where he rejoined the Herlev set up and enjoyed a steady period of play icing with the U20s, Herlev IK in the Denmark 2 league and with the Herlev Eagles at the top tier of Danish ice hockey. In 2015 he made the switch to play for the Gladsaxe Bears and in his last full season icing for them he played 25 games, scoring 12 goals and assisting in another 15 more giving him a points total of 27.
2018 saw Mads make a move to the UK for work and he has since set his life up here, living and working in Kent for the past 5 years. During that time, he has been unable to commit to playing ice hockey but his love of the sport never diminished and with his home life now settled he once again yearned to get back out on the ice. Fast forward to this summer and an opening of communication between Mads and the club. He was invited to training during the off season and his passion for the sport coupled with his ability and skill was evident immediately. Karl Lennon was certain he would be a great addition to the team and was keen to secure his services and fill one of our non-Brit trained slots. Lots of hard work behind the scenes from a number of key individuals ultimately culminated in his paperwork being approved and the green light secured to get him on board.
On securing the services of Thune for the upcoming season Head Coach, Lennon, had this to say “Mads reached out to me during the summer break really to understand how he could get back into his hockey. He’s living here in Kent having relocated to the UK for work pre-Brexit, so it made perfect sense for me to invite him out for a skate. It was obvious to me pretty quickly that he would not only fit the profile of an import at this level, but also the profile of a player we would like to have here at Invicta. It’s so rare that you get the luxury to skate with the import you want to sign for a couple of months before the season starts, so we had to make the most of it. After a bit of persistence our side we managed to get the signing finalised and I’m delighted to have him with us. He is a technical forward that has strong skating ability, good hands, great positional play, and a quick release. He will complement well with some of the other players we have on the Roster. I could also see how quickly he was embraced by the boys and that for me only confirms that we got the right guy to complete our Roster. Welcome to the Dynamos Mads”.
Mads is thrilled to be back playing the sport he loves and had this to add “I spoke with Karl this summer as I was desperate to get back into the game. I have played hockey all my life until work brought me here to the UK. After a number of sessions with the team I was really happy to get the chance to play. I got to meet the boys who are a great group that made me feel welcome. Glad now that we have managed to get it all officially sorted and I cannot wait to get the season started”!
