Head Coach Kevin Parrish has bolstered his blue line ahead of Sunday’s game against the Swindon Wildcats with the capture of 19 year old defenceman Ross Connolly who returns to the UK having spent several seasons across the pond.
Ross Connolly – younger brother of John Connolly of NIHL rivals the London Raiders – has previously iced in his native Scotland, the Greater Metro Hockey League (GMHL) in Canada, in the NIHL South with London and in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) in the USA.
The Paisley born defenceman originally rose through the ranks in Solway where he appeared in the NIHL North but opted to continue his development across the Atlantic in Canada from 2015/16. Connolly played for both the Tottenham Steam and Temiscaming Titans in the GMHL – a Junior A Hockey League – where he tallied 13 points (all assists) in 29 games back on the blue line.
In 2016/17 Connolly then spent 11 games with the London Raiders, during which time he managed a goal and another 6 assists, before returning to the USA this term where he has dressed for the Casper Coyotes in the WSHL. However now, after 16 further appearances in America, the defenceman has agreed a return to the UK where he will ice for the Invicta Dynamos for the remainder of the season.
Speaking on the capture of Ross Connolly, Head Coach Kevin Parrish said, “I’m very pleased to have been able to bring Ross onto the team and look forward to working with him for the remainder of the campaign. Ross is a strong, young defenceman with plenty of promise, he has good experience under his belt from his time in the NIHL North, NIHL South and of course from his seasons playing junior hockey across the pond and is ready to now make his mark in the NIHL South’s top tier. He’s a solid blue liner, has an eye for a pass and a strong shot from distance. I’m pleased to add him to our defensive options and with the depth he will provide us”.
Ross Connolly should go straight into the line-up this weekend during which the Invicta Dynamos have just one game – on home ice against the Swindon Wildcats on Sunday. On their last visit to Gillingham the former EPL outfit were edged out in overtime and the Mos will be hoping to pull off a similar shock when the puck drops again at 5.15pm. Tickets will be available online ahead of the game or on the way into the rink on the day of the fixture.
