After a 7-4 aggregate win against the Milton Keynes Thunder the Invicta Dynamos will now face Jeremy Cornish and his Wightlink Raiders in the NIHL Southern Playoff semi-finals this weekend with the Mos on the road on Saturday before returning home for the 2nd leg this Sunday.
A Callum Fowler hat-trick, a goal from Joshua Condren and a shutout from Damien King gave the Dynamos a 4-0 victory in the 2nd leg of their quarter-final on Sunday and sent them through to the next round where the Wightlink Raiders now lie in wait. The Isle of Wight outfit made it to the last four having brushed aside the Solent Devils 10-4 over the weekend and the current playoff champions will be in no mood to roll over come game time as they look to retain their trophy. After 36 games the Raiders finished just a single league point behind the Mos in the NIHL South Division 1 and the sides could not be closer matched with both teams taking a win and two draws from the four previous meetings this campaign.
As if Wightlink needed further incentive to push for a final spot, Sunday also looks set to be player/coach Jeremy Cornish’s final visit to the SilverBlades Gillingham as a player with the Canadian hanging up his skates at the close of the playoffs. The veteran has been a tough opponent in all his outings in Kent with the Raiders and will be sure to have his team ready to battle when the puck drops for the start of the semi-finals this weekend.
