Former Invicta Dynamos junior Jarvis Mewett will make a return to the Mos this season after the 19 year old defenceman agreed a switch from the Lee Valley Lions ahead of 2015/16.
Jarvis Mewett rose through the ranks in Gillingham to first appear for the under 16s as early as 2009/10 and he would continue to play above his age group throughout his junior development. He debuted for the under 18s in 2010/11 before appearing for the Streatham Royals at the same level the following season. By 2012/13 the young blue liner had moved to the Lee Valley Lions where he was then given his first taste of senior hockey in the NIHL South Division 2.
Between 2012 and 2014 Mewett split his time between the under 18s at Lee Valley, who he would captain in his second season, and the Lions in the NIHL South’s second tier, before making the step up to the senior team full time for 2014/15. He now leaves Lee Valley having dressed 34 times for the London based outfit whilst claiming 5 assists and amassing just 18 minutes of penalties in the process. He arrives in Gillingham as part of Head Coach Kevin Parrish’s new look side hoping to continue developing his game and ready to make his mark in the NIHL South Division 1 back at the club where his career began.
Speaking on the capture of Jarvis Mewett, Kevin Parrish said, “Jarvis is an Invicta junior making his way back and I’m pleased to be giving him this opportunity to step up a league for 2015/16. I’ve watched him in practice and he fits in with what we are building for next season. He’s only 19 but already a good solid ‘D-man’ who looks ready to take his game to the next level. He’s willing to keep challenging himself and continue progressing and I’m sure he will only improve as he gets more experience under his belt”.
Meanwhile, speaking briefly to his now former side following his summer exit, Mewett told the Lee Valley Lions Facebook page, “I have really enjoyed my time with the Lions and have made some great friends. They are a great bunch of guys both on and off the ice but I feel that I am now ready to step up a league and push myself”.
Jarvis Mewett will wear number 16 for the Dynamos in 2015/16 and is the sixteenth player to be announced by the club this summer with the first puck drop of the new season now looming on the horizon. He is the eighth new face to sign for the team after Conor Redmond, Bailey Wootton, Andy Henderson, Joshua Condren, Jacob Ranson and imports Michal Benadik and Eriks Ozollapa.
