Lewis stays for seventh straight season

NickyLewis_banner_080315It will be a seventh consecutive season at the Silver Blades Gillingham for 27 year old forward Nicky Lewis after the Welshman put pen to paper extending his stay in Kent for the duration of the 2015/16 campaign.

Lewis, a former Cardiff junior, first arrived at the Mos in the summer of 2009 after a year long stint in America and has since gone on to wear the Dynamos jersey on 258 occasions – an achievement that already makes him the club’s eleventh most iced player.

The forward, who has made the number seven jersey his own, has amassed 223 points during his time in Gillingham with 99 goals and 124 assists to his name. 25 of that formidable tally would come in 2014/15 as Lewis found the target 11 times and played a hand in 14 more whilst featuring in all but one of the club’s 60 outings. Now the near ever present skater will be hoping for more as he secures his return to the Mos to make it seven straight years at the Silver Blades barring a half season stint with the Sheffield Steeldogs of the EPL in 2010/11.

Speaking on the return of the Welshman, Head Coach Kevin Parrish said, “Nicky is not only a fantastic athlete but a great character and a real asset to the club both on and off of the ice. He battles from puck drop to final buzzer, plays across all the lines in numerous positions and his commitment is fantastic as shown by his 59 appearances last term. Having been around for a long time he doesn’t always get the praise he deserves but he’s now part of the furniture at the Mos, we consider him a local lad and I wouldn’t want to see him playing for anyone else”.

Nicky Lewis is the fourth player to be announced by the Dynamos during the off-season and joins returnees Mark McGill and Adam McNicoll as well as new signing Jacob Ranson on the roster for 2015/16. Head Coach Kevin Parrish’s new look side is beginning to take shape and the club are set to announce further signings during the course of next week.
