This Sunday, as the Invicta Dynamos host the Chelmsford Chieftains in a top of the table clash, we invite you to help us support the Paige Stewart Appeal as we hold a collection to help her family towards the £40k they need to make her walk.
4 year old Paige Stewart from Gillingham suffers from Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) – a condition that means the white matter in her brain that controls movement is dead. Just like any other young girl Paige wants nothing more than to be able to run around with her brother, ride a scooter or even just walk into school but her illness prevents her from taking part in these activities – activities many of us take for granted. In addition Paige suffers from painful leg spasms that are temporarily relieved by Botox injections but only at the cost of her legs being placed in casts for two or three weeks at a time.
Now her family are seeking a permanent solution and that solution is Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) – an operation that locates the misfiring nerve endings causing pain and tightness and cuts them resulting in rehabilitation of both legs. In time this could allow Paige to support herself more easily and even walk unaided. However the procedure is not currently funded by the NHS and with the operation costing £17.5k and five weeks of resulting physiotherapy another £22.5k her family are in great need of generosity to help their and Paige’s dreams come true.
To aid the Paige Stewart Appeal the Invicta Dynamos will be holding a collection on Sunday 8th February before and during the game against the Chelmsford Chieftains and all donations, regardless of size, will be hugely appreciated. Please give what you can and help Paige stand on her own two feet for the first time.
