After learning his trade north of the border in Scotland, blue liner Andy Martin switched to the South aged just 20 in 1989 and announced his arrival at the Medway Bears with a goal on his debut against Basingstoke in the British Hockey League (BHL). Over the next three years he would ice for Medway, Romford and Peterborough before spending four consecutive years with the Bears between 1993 and 1997. After a year out of the game Martin then appeared for the newly created Invicta Dynamos (the replacement for the Medway team) from 1998/99 and he would be involved with the Kent club at various levels through to his retirement in 2006.
Andy Martin was an excellent defenceman with a reputation for doing whatever it took to secure the points for his team. Having hung up his skates he continued to play a role in the sport as he coached at various junior levels.
In April 2009, Andy Martin tragically passed away aged just 40.
