Mark Williams is a name known across British ice hockey with the defenceman’s career spanning back to the 1990s and including vast appearances in the EPL (now NIHL National) and ENL (now NIHL) as well as more recently in the United Arab Emirates. In the UK Williams has featured for the Solihull Blaze, Romford Raiders, Peterborough Phantoms, Chelmsford Chieftains, Guildford Flames and our very own Invicta Dynamos.
After almost a decade in the EPL during which he iced in 285 games, claimed 16 goals and 81 assists for 97 points from the blue line and amassed 1214 minutes of penalties, Williams joined the Dynamos in 2009/10 bringing stability at the back as well as grit and experience. He was a part of a Mos line-up that secured the ENL Southern Title with his influence in the rear guard in and his 6 goals and 21 assists in 26 outings a contributing factor in propelling the team to the top of the league.
Following his time in Gillingham, Williams had a spell in Essex with Chelmsford before making appearances abroad whilst in the United Arab Emirates. Now 43, the veteran is returning to the Dynamos and the NIHL South’s top tier where he will provide cover when required as well as using his vast influence to guide younger players and offering the physicality that has made him a fans’ favourite wherever he has played.
“Mark has been training with us recently and he signs now on a part time basis with him providing cover when required. He’ll add valuable experience to our young team and increase our resilience through injuries / bans but also add toughness when needed. He’s a great guy with massive amounts of hockey know-how and I really appreciate him stepping in to help us”.
