Owen Dell has risen through the junior ranks in Gillingham where he has regularly been a standout performer at his age group – often playing at a level above. As a 13 year old Dell managed 11 goals and 8 assists in 17 outings for the under 15s in 2015/16 and his impact on the side saw him captain the team the following year.
In 2016/17, and now wearing the ‘C’, the forward scored 11 and played a role in 21 more in 16 fixtures for the under 15s before also making appearances at under 18s level for both the Invicta Colts in Division 1 and the Broncos in Division 2. Both sides struggled in their respective leagues but Dell’s development was a strong positive nonetheless as he managed 17 goals and 7 assists in 13 Division 2 fixtures and 3 strikes with 1 assist in 14 Division 1 outings.
Last term the Colts competed in Division 2 of the under 18s setup and Owen Dell moved to that level full time. Despite being aged just 15, Dell was the side’s ‘Forward of the Year’ with an emphatic 39 goals and 16 assists for 55 points in 14 fixtures – a return of 3.9 points per game.
In addition to his impressive displays for the Invicta juniors, Owen Dell has frequently been selected to represent the South East Conference in tournaments at various age groups whilst also representing England’s youth teams on the international stage. This season he will continue his excellent development by splitting his time with the under 18s whilst also stepping up for his first taste of senior hockey with the Dynamos in the NIHL South’s top tier.
“Owen is an excellent young prospect who has shone at his age group and above in junior hockey. He has a natural aptitude for the game and knows how to get amongst the points. Owen’s progress at junior level has seen him represent the South East Conference in tournaments and England a youth level and I believe the time is right to expose him to the NIHL South Division 1. He won’t be overawed by it despite being just 16 and I’m confident it will help make him an even better player. Owen has a bright future in the game and I look forward to having him on the roster for 2018/19.”
