Dynamos welcome back Webster

masonwebster_050620The Invicta Dynamos are delighted to announce the return of 25 year old physical forward Mason Webster who re-joins the club following two seasons away with the Raiders IHC in Romford.

Mason Webster will need little introduction to Mos supporters having previously worn a Dynamos jersey between 2016 and 2018. After being tempted to Kent ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, Webster went on to become an instant hit with fans due to his determined displays, battles in front of the net and willingness to drop the gloves. He featured in 43 games that first season, notched 6 goals and played a role in 29 more for a total of 35 points. He also amassed 187 minutes of penalties. His efforts saw then Head Coach Kevin Parrish pick out the gritty forward as his 2016/17 Coach’s Player of the Year in a season that concluded with the team claiming the NIHL Southern Playoff Title.

Webster returned for a second consecutive stint in 2017/18 where his influence on the side grew even further. Despite the campaign proving difficult for the Dynamos, as they were temporarily thrust into British Ice Hockey’s second tier, Webster personally excelled with 14 goals and 19 assists giving him 33 points in 38 outings. It was a tally that made him the team’s highest points’ scorer and at the end of the season he picked up a hat-trick of accolades including the Forward of the Year, Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

Before joining the Dynamos, Webster had spent a year with the Raiders IHC and it was here he then returned in the summer of 2018. Over the course of two seasons back in Romford the forward featured in 61 games, tallied 7 goals, 25 assists and so 32 points. He also amassed 239 minutes of penalties as he proved himself to be amongst the fiercest combatants in the division. Now though he returns to familiar ground in Kent eager to pull on a Dynamos jersey one again.

Speaking on his switch to the Mos, Mason Webster said, “I’m really happy to be back with the Dynamos. I am being totally honest when I say I was sad to leave the club in 2018 because it felt then, and still does now, like a home to me. It doesn’t matter who else I’ve played for, inside I’ve always still routed for Invicta. My two best years of hockey to date came whilst playing for this club. Back then I loved working with the management, the fans and the players and I have fantastic memories from those seasons. I can’t wait to bring all that back now, hopefully along with some silverware.”

Webster then spoke on his expectations for the upcoming campaign when he said, “I feel as a team we can definitely compete with the bigger sides in the division such as Streatham and Chelmsford as long as we play the right way, especially given the side Anthony Leone is putting together. For me personally I want to help the team achieve as much as possible whilst getting back to enjoying the game again. I think I will bring some experience to the roster, I’ll try to help out the younger lads when they need it and I will continue to be the team player that I have always prided myself on.”

Player-Coach Anthony Leone revealed his thoughts on Webster’s return adding “I’m delighted to have Mason back in a Dynamos jersey. He was a key player for the side in the two previous seasons he spent with us – often icing on the top line, getting amongst the points and bringing a high level of protection to the other players. He’s a role model for the younger guys here and a huge hit with the fans who I’m sure will be delighted to have him back. Last season we were perhaps missing the level of physicality Mason brings to the ice but he’s not just an out and out fighter. Mason can play, score, assist and hit. He is a team player and an excellent addition to the squad. He belongs in a Mos jersey so it’s great to have him back putting one on.”

Mason Webster becomes this sixth player to commit to the Dynamos ahead of the new season following the announcements of Anthony Leone, Tomas Banovsky, Harrison Lillis, brother Brandon Webster and Tom Davis.
