21 year old defenceman Ryan Morgan will enter a third consecutive season with the Invicta Dynamos after penning a contract to return to the club for the 2019/20 campaign.
Blue liner Ryan Morgan is a product of the Chelmsford youth setup and made his senior debut in the NIHL South’s second tier with the Warriors aged just 16 in 2013/14. He remained in Essex until 2015/16 when he opted to continue learning his trade across the Atlantic with the Coldwater Falcons in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). He returned to the UK in 2016/17, and to the Warriors, however he also stepped up to represent the Chieftains in the NIHL South’s top tier.
A league restructure in 2017/18 saw Chelmsford withdraw from the NIHL South Division 1 but Ryan Morgan remained by penning a deal with the Dynamos in Kent. In his debut season with the Mos the ‘stay at home’ defenceman featured in 40 games and claimed 8 assists. Last term he then opted to continue in Gillingham for 2018/19 and was the only player on the club’s roster to feature in every one of 46 fixtures – avoiding injury and suspension as well as demonstrating great commitment to the side. In those outings Morgan managed another 5 assists. Now the battling blue liner will hope to continue his ever present record as he completes a deal which keeps him in a Dynamos jersey for a third consecutive term.
Having just committed his future to the side for another year, defenceman Ryan Morgan first reflected on 2018/19 saying, “Last season was a tough one for everyone, especially as we had such a small squad for the majority of the year, but one thing we can take from it moving forward is that everyone battled hard and gave their all. Now, following the league restructure, games should be more competitive and so we will be working hard to turn every home tie into a win and make our place a fortress again. We want to keep our fans noisy and compete with the best teams at the top of the division.”
Talking on his motivation behind remaining in Kent, Morgan said, “The team Anthony Leone is putting together looks to have a great mix of youth and experience and I’m looking forward to carrying on developing my game and learning from the experienced guys in the room. It should be a good year and I’m excited about getting started.”
Having added another defenceman to his roster, Player-Coach Anthony Leone said, “It’s great to be welcoming Ryan back for another year. He’s still only young but has some great experience under his belt already. He’s rightly popular with the fans for his work ethic and commitment to the team and he’s the type of player that rarely takes the headlines but is solid, reliable and ever present. It’s those underrated guys that are really important to a team. I can trust Ryan to do his job and battle hard every week. I’m expecting 2019/20 to be a big year for him.”
Ryan Morgan will continue to wear the number 65 jersey when the new season gets underway in September.
