A team of just 13 put up dogged resistance but ultimately fell to the Slough Jets on the road in Berkshire on Saturday night despite goals from Anthony Leone, Mason Webster and Harrison Lillis.
In the opening frame the Jets took the lead at 07.03 – Luke Smital and Daniel Bradley involved in the build-up play as Jacob White-Sey fired beyond Owen Rider to make it 1-0. That lead was extended at 15.37 – Smital again claiming an assist as Harry Corkum sent the puck over the line for 2-0. Moments later and penalty trouble followed for the visitors as both Richard Harris and Mason Webster were called for roughing but they saw off the powerplay to stay in the hunt at the end of the frame.
In the second period Luke Smital and Tom Davis had minor altercation that saw both go to the box allowing them to watch on as the Jets then added a third – Harry Corkum was in the right place at the right time again as he beat Owen Rider for his second of the evening at 24.58. Daniel Rose claimed the only assist.
Not long after the goal Solomon Smith and Mason Webster exchanged enough pleasantries to see them both sit for roughing before Slough then received further penalties to Jacob White-Sey and Liam Clark who were both called for tripping. On the powerplay the Mos finally made their mark – at 29.21 Juraj Huska exchanged passes with Anthony Leone who beat Brett Shepherd to cut the deficit to 3-1. A bench minor on the Jets and a slashing penalty on Leone saw another two men in the box but the Mos added another on the powerplay at 30.37 –Tomas Banovsky involved as Harrison Lillis fired in for 3-2.
Now it was the Mos turn to give up a powerplay as Tom Davis sat for hooking and the hosts took advantage at 31.54 – Harry Corkum rounding off his hat-trick with assists going to Daniel Rose and Jacob White-Sey. Despite falling 4-2 behind and still being a man down, the Dynamos continued to push forward and they added a third whilst shorthanded – Mason Webster on the board with Tomas Banovsky and Arran Strawson picking up points for their roles in the build-up. Unfortunately for the visitors Webster was then sent to the box soon after for cross checking and the Jets added a fifth to make it 5-3 at 37.02 – White-Sey adding to his two assists with a goal of his own after play from Rose and Daniel Bradley. The visitors then had to battle to see out the frame as Billy Phillips was given a misconduct penalty and Anthon Leone was penalised for slashing.
In the final frame a now tiring Dynamos continued to battle but they were unable find a way beyond Brett Shepherd sending them to a defeat at the hands of a Jets team who also failed to add more to their tally.
So it was a 5-3 road loss for the Mos in a difficult night. Just 13 players against a team of 21 was always likely to result in an uphill battle and the visitors were unable to cause an upset despite their efforts.
