Invicta Dynamos failed to claw their way back into the game on Sunday night after a difficult opening frame saw them trail by 4 and they ultimately fell to a 5-1 loss at the hands of local rivals Streatham.
Dynamos were missing Gregor McAllen, Mark Williams, Ryan Giles and Tomas Banovsky. Streatham were missing Brandon Miles and Adam Wood due to suspension and Jordan Gregory. Dynamos youngster Owen Rider was in net while Damian King took to the ice for Streatham.
Streatham threatened from the off in the opening period with Scott Bailey going in search of the first goal but his effort from close range was just wide. He was on target at 03.52 though – Bailey finding the back of the net with a blue line shot for 1-0.
Down the other end the Dynamos got their first chance of the game as Brandon Webster skated down the wing and forced King to take action but the shot stopper made a comfortable glove save. The visitors were soon back on the attack and they doubled their lead at 11.25 – Ryan Watt firing at Owen Rider from point blank left and, though Rider stopped the first shot, Watt collected his own rebound forced over the line for 2-0. Just seconds later Luke Brittle then roofed a shot over Rider from closer right for a three goal cushion at 11.36.
In response Tom Davis fired a slapshot towards King but the netminder deflected the puck into the corner. Another chance for the Dynamos then came as Juraj Huska attempted to beat the Streatham netminder low but the goalie diverted wide with the pads. Streatham then furthered their lead once again as Bailey claimed his second of the game, this time from close range, to make it 4-0 17.12. End of the first period and the Dynamos trailed 4-0.
Second period underway and Huska called King into action with a shot from the left wing which he denied before Arran Strawson’s follow up trickled agonisingly along the goal line. Dynamos’ Henry Aiken collected the puck in the corner but was met with a check from Rupert Quiney. The two battled for the puck with Aiken winning, the Streatham player was unamused and pushed Aiken behind the play. Quiney received two-minutes for roughing but the Dynamos were unable to claw a goal back during the powerplay. Aiken then received two-minutes for cross checking which saw the Dynamos on their first penalty kill of the game. Streatham pinned to Dynamos in their end but were also unable to make the most of the man advantage. End of the second and the score remained 4-0 to Streatham.
In the final period Jake Stedman planted a big hit on Quiney who retaliated with a shove. When the whistle was blown, he continued to go after the Dynamos forward who was half his size. Quiney received two-minutes for roughing and then a further two-minutes for slashing. Stedman also picked up two-minutes for unsporting conduct but the Mos came out on the powerplay. With the man advantage Strawson skated around the Streatham team and fed the puck to Huska in the crease who had a clear shot over King to cut the deficit to 4-1 at 42:41.
Looking for another Webster skated down the ice and took a shot but with no one to pick up the rebound possession fell back to Streatham. The visitors then soon regained their four goal lead as Watt fed the puck to Ingoldsby who managed to shoot beyond Rider for 5-1 at 48:13.
With the points secured Streatham’s Quiney continued to look for trouble when his pass was intercepted by Stedman who then side stepped the defenceman to go clear but Stedman’s shot was wide. The Streatham man decided to go after Stedman once again, this time looking for a fight but the gloves stayed on.
Two minutes before the end of the game Watt then received two-minutes for cross checking which gave the Dynamos their last powerplay chance of the game but they were unable to pose King anymore trouble in the Streatham net.
End of game and the Dynamos had managed to get on the scoreboard but could not catch up with the visitors after a first period 4-0 deficit and ultimately Streatham took home two points.
